Athletics State Teams

WA STATE TEAM

Athletics West administers and selects a range of State Teams to participate in both Junior and Senior National Athletics Championships. Athletes have multiple opportunities to qualify for WA's State Teams, either through Championship medals or qualification times, these include:

Australian All Schools Championships (December)
Australian Track and Field Championships including Combined Events - Under 13 - Open (April)
Australian Little Athletics Championships (April)
Australian Half Marathon Championships (August)
Australian Cross Country Championships (August)
Australian Marathon Championships (September)

HOW TO QUALIFY	Nominate for selection upon entry to the 2023 WA All Schools Championships. The top two placegetters per event who have nominated for State Team selection will be offered a position in the State Team.	Place top 3 at either: 2023 WA All Schools Championships 2024 WA State Championships (22-25 Feb 24) WA Combined Championships (18-19 Nov 23) OR achieve the Athletics Australia Entry Standard requirements: https://www.athletics.com.au/entrystandards/	Nominate for selection (essential to be considered) Compete at either: 2024 WA State Championships (22-25 Feb) in the U14, U15, U16 age group 2024 WA Junior Championships (8-10 Mar) in the U13, U14 or U15 age group Combined Event Championship (18-19 Nov) in the U15 age group	Place in the top three (3) at the 2024 WA State Championships (22-25 Feb) in the U15 or U16 age group. Please note Pole Vault, Hammer Throw and Steeplechase are not offered at this event. Invites will be sent after WA State Championships.
TEAM SIZE	2 athletes per event, per gender per age group	Unlimited	Able Bodied 16 girls and 16 boys will be selected per age group for the Australian Little Athletics Championships. Selection is based on filling the strongest possible team across multiple events. TEAM TRAVEL PACKAGE	N/A (hosted in Perth in 2023)	Individual travel only	Team travel is compulsory. Athletes can choose from the full travel package or land only package (excludes flights). Athletes who choose land only will have set drop off and collection times at the team hotel.	Team Travel Package only (compulsory).

A range of funding opportunities exists to help support the development of athletes, as well as specific scholarships for under-represented groups looking to progress along the Athletics pathway.

Purchase all items through Athletics West online shop and your order will be sent to your household directly from the warehouse. Sample items are made available at State Championship events to try on or are available during Athletics West opening hours.

TEAM MANAGEMENT

Athletics West seek nominations for Assistant Team Managers for upcoming National Championship Events. These roles are voluntary though return flights, accommodation and meal allowance will be provided for the championship.

TEAM RELAY COACH COORDINATORS

Athletics West seek nominations for State Team Relay Coaches for upcoming National Championships Events. These roles are voluntary though financial contribution will be provided during the championship. The exact amount to be funded is to be confirmed prior to the applicants accepting the role.
