COLES AUSTRALIAN LITTLE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Coles Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) is an annual two-day event conducted by Little Athletics Australia. All states and territories, apart from the Northern Territory, are represented at the Championships.  

The ALAC encompasses

  • Under 13 athletes (and Under 13 Multi-Class athletes)- Teams Track & Field Event
  • Under 14 athletes (and Under 14 Multi-Class athletes)- Individual Track & Field Events
  • Under 15 athletes (and Under 15 Multi-Class athletes)- Individual Track & Field Events
  • Under 15 athletes- Combined Events Championship

TEAM NOMINATION 

Under 13 Athletes & Under 13 Multi-Class/Para Athletes
For Little Athletics Under 13 athletes, ALAC is a team-based event  and athletes must nominate in advance to be considered for the team. Little Athletics U13 members who have nominated will be considered for selection based on performances from either or both the WA State Championships (22-25 February) or the WA State Junior Championships (8-10 March). For the avoidance of doubt, athletes can choose to compete in either State Championship, or both, and any results will be considered as part of the selection process. Athletes must be registered with the Little Athletics Program to be considered for selection. In 2024 Athletics West can nominate 16 male and 16 female athletes to the Under 13 Team and as such, selection is generally based on building the strongest possible team to contest ALAC.

Under 14 Athletes & Under 14 Multi-Class/Para Athletes

For Little Athletics Under 14 athletes, ALAC is an individual championship and athletes must nominate in advance to be considered for the team. Under 15 Athletes & Under 15 Multi-Class/Para Athletes

For Little Athletics Under 15 athletes, ALAC is individual championship and athletes must nominate in advance to be considered for the team. Little Athletics U15 members who have nominated will be considered for selection based on performances from the WA State Championships (22-25 February). Athletes must be registered with the Little Athletics Program to be considered for selection. In 2024 Athletics West will select 16 male and 16 female athletes to the Under 15 Team. as such, selection is generally based on building the strongest possible team to contest ALAC.

Under 15 Athletes (Combined Event Championships)

Athletics West can select 1 male and 1 female athletes to contest the Little Athletics Australia U15 Combined Event Championships, as part of ALAC from the 26-28 April 2024. For the avoidance of doubt, the Under 15 athletes compete in the Heptathlon event and must contest all 7 events within the Heptathlon. Athletes must nominate in advance to be considered for the team. Athletes are selected based on performances at the WA State Combined Event Championships (18-19 November 2023) in the Little Athletics Under 15 age group. The top nominated athlete in the Little Athletics Under 15 age group will be selected for the State Team. Please note athletes must be registered Little Athletics Program members for selection.

WA Team Guide

TEAM SIZE | 

  • Able Bodied: 16 girls and 16 boys will be selected per age group for the Australian Little Athletics Championships. Selection is based on filling the strongest possible team across multiple events.

  • Multi-Class (must hold a provisional classification at a minimum)
    Born 2011 – 8 athletes total
    Born 2010 – 16 athletes total
    Born 2009 – 16 athletes total

TEAM TRAVEL | Team travel is compulsory and will be 25 April- 29 April 2024. Athletes can choose from the full travel package or land only package (excludes flights). Athletes who choose land only will have set drop off and collection times at the team hotel. Athletics West will book accommodation, flights (those who choose full package), ground transport, meals, team activities. 

TEAM SUPPORT | Athletics West will be sending team managers and coaches to support the WA Team at the event. We will also be conducting team sessions ahead of the Championships to allow athletes to get to know their teammates and prepare for the event.
