BEST PRACTICE COACHING FOR LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT
In partnership with the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS), we are pleased to host the first workshop of the 2022 Coach Education Series, aiming to provide education and development opportunities to WA coaches by focusing on: Education, Environment, and Experience. These workshops are provided free to all Athletics Australia accredited coaches (Level 1 or above). Athletics West acknowledges the support of WAIS and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries in making this series possible.
In this session, Grant Ward, WAIS Athletics Performance Manager, will present on best practice coaching for long term athlete development, including planning and programming for peak performance and load management, "big rocks" vs "1%'ers" and managing the coach-athlete relationship.
Grant is the Athletics Performance Manager at the Western Australian Institute of Sport and one of Australia's most experienced coaches, with Level 5 accreditation in Throws, ATFCA Level 5 accreditation in Multi Events. Grant's extensive coaching experience has seen him appointed as a National Team Coach at 3 x Olympic Games, 1x Paralympic Games, 4x World Championships, 4x Commonwealth Games, 2x World U20 Championships and 1x World University Games and athletes under his tuteledge included former Australian Record holder Kim Mickle (World Championships Silver Medallist, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, Javelin) and Kylie Wheeler (2x Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist, Heptathlon), amongst many other Australian representatives.
