The 2024 WA North West Athletics Championships will be held from Saturday 21 - Sunday 22 September 2024 at the Bulgarra Ovals, in Karratha. On Friday 20 September, there will be a range of clinics for athletes, with some of Australia's top athletes headed to Karratha to host the clinics, in addition to parent/volunteer upskilling sessions for coaching and officiating roles. The Championships are expected to attract approximately 200 junior, senior and masters participants, from 5 years and over, all vying for top honours and an opportunity to achieve their own personal best results.

ENTRY & ELIGIBILITY

The North West Athletics Championships is open to all athletes residing in the North West of Western Australia (Kimberley and Pilbara regions, in addition to Exmouth). Athletes are not required to be Athletics West members (of Little Athletics or Senior programs) to be eligible to compete at these Championships. 

Athletes from other regions, are eligible to compete, but are not eligible to medal at this event.

The event offering for athletes in the U6 – U17 age groups (as calculated at 31 December 2024) will be as per the 2024/25 Little Athletics Rules of Competition – Event and Equipment Specification Summary, with the exception of the U6 and U7 age groups.  

The following events will be contested for the Open age group (athletes 17 years and over): 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, Long Jump, Javelin, Discus and Shot Put.

Please note athletes may only compete in 6 events across the 2 days of competition.

U6 & U7 Age Group Competition

The U6 and U7 age group competition will offer three events per day, conducted one after another to provide an engaging competition experience for our youngest athletes. Athletes can choose to enter one or both days and do not have to compete in every event, but are encouraged to stay with the group. 

These age groups will meet at the Marshalling Area at the beginning of the day (see event timetable for specific timing) and will be accompanied by our special guest athletes through a warmup game, followed by their events. Athletes will not be required to marshal between events and will move to each site following conclusion of the previous event. Medals will be awarded at the conclusion of the U6/U7 events each day.

Community Events - Have a Go at Athletics! 
The North West Athletics Championships will offer a range of athlete clinics, coach and officiating upskilling sessions. Athlete clinics will be available for anyone wanting to have a go or learn from some of Australia's best athletes. 

Upskilling sessions for parents wanting to learn more about coaching, event rules and setting up/running a site at competition will also be offered.

Age Groups
The birth date calculation is as at 31st December 2024 for all participants. Athletes may only compete in one age group.
