The 2026 WA State Road Walking Championships powered by Qbit will be hosted by the WA Race Walking Club and Athletics West at Perry Lakes, on Sunday, 02 August 2026.

REGISTRATION 

The 2026 WA State Road Walking Championships is open to all members aged under 10 (Born 2017) - Open (Born 2006+) including all ages for multi-class athletes (para) and are a registered member through an affiliated club, or registered as an Athletics West independent member. If you have not currently registered for the 2025-26 Season, please visit our Membership page.

Athletes can not participate in more than one (1) event and MUST Compete in the correct distance offered for that age group above  

  • Master Athletes have the option of competing in the Open age-group categories or the 5km event.
  • U20 athletes intending to compete in the Half Marathon are welcome to register; however, entries will be assessed to confirm the athlete is suitably prepared for the distance.

WARM UP / COOL DOWN

Athletes are only allowed to warm up on the course at the scheduled time in the program or elsewhere around the venue. Athletes are not able to cool down on the course during races

RACE START / FINISH

Athletes are to line up on the Start Line when advised by the Starter and/or Chief Walks Judge. 

At the Finish Line, athletes are to line up and get their number checked off and spoken to by the Chief Walks Judge before departing the Finish Area. 

COMPETITION BIBS/RACE NUMBERS & UNIFORMS

All athletes will receive one (1) competition bib, specific for this event. Bib collection will be at TIC (Athletics West tent) on the day. Competition bibs must be affixed to the front of their uniform with no less than four pins each. The entire bib, including sponsorship information must always be visible and no part of the bib shall be folded under the uniform. Athletes are to collect event specific bib at latest 30 minutes prior to event start time.

Competing athletes are required to wear the prescribed competition uniform by their club or centre. If an athlete is an independent Athletics West member, they are required to wear the independent uniform.

Where a Club/Centre do not have shorts, tights or briefs available, athletes can wear either plain black or plain attire in the colour of their Club/Centre uniform.

RESULTS & MEDAL PRESENTATIONS

Medal presentations will occur shortly after the conclusion of each race. Athletes who finish in the top three of their age group event will be awarded medals and will be advised to report to the medal presentation area following the recording of their place.

Results are live on Roster Athletics and will be published at the conclusion of the event.

ROSTER ATHLETICS

This event utilises the Roster Athletics app for start lists, timetables and live results. 

MARSHALLING

Competing athletes are to marshal at the start line 15 minutes prior to their event. Failure to do so may result in the athlete unable to compete.

SCRATCHING

If you no longer intend to compete, please scratch from the event:

  • Prior to the event: please fill out the Contact Us Form
  • On the day: please visit the TIC (Athletics West tent) to withdraw/ or utilise the Roster Athletics App to scratch for their registered events

Refunds (where an entry fee was payable) will only be provided if you have contacted Athletics West prior to the entry closing date.

VOLUNTEERING REQUIREMENT

Our events are only possible with the support of volunteers. Events will be delayed or cancelled if we do not fulfill volunteer rosters. For members, it is compulsory to complete 1 roster per season for those competing in the winter season. Ahead of the State Championships, participants who have not completed a roster will be asked to do so at the State Championships.

LATE ENTRIES

Late entries are taken solely on availability of a vacant position. There are no guarantees of positions in events for late entrants and the number of available positions in an event will be determined at the complete discretion of Athletics West, in line with timetabling considerations and availability.  

If no entries are received for an event by the closing date, this event will be removed from the program and no late entries will be accepted.  

Late entries will be accepted through an online portal from 6pm Thursday 23 July 2026, until 11:59pm Sunday 26 July 2026. The online portal will provide the number of positions available, and late entries will be taken on a first come, first serve basis. Upon opening the late entry portal, Athletics West will also post a list of events that are closed, and subsequently no further entries will be accepted for these events.  

  • Late Entries will NOT be available beyond 11:59pm Sunday 26 July 2026, this includes not being available on the day of competition

Late entries will attract a $15 fee, in addition to the standard entry fee as per the athlete’s membership category.

NATIONAL PROGRESSION 

Australian Athletics welcomes all participants in the 2026 Australian Athletics Junior Race Walking Championships in Ballarat, Victoria. Entries are open and close Tuesday 4 August 17:00 AEST.
