The Level 1 Recreational Running accreditation is designed for coaches who are interested in preparing runners in running events up to Marathon-distance.

Level 1 Recreational Running coaches primarily work with novice and intermediate runners.
Requirements
To gain the Level 1 Recreational Running Coach accreditation, a coach must meet the following criteria:
• Be 16 years or older.
Course Structure
- Part 1
Online course
Complete the Level 1 Recreational Running Coach online modules.
- Part 2
Practical course
Attend all online practical learning sessions - these will take place on:
- Sunday, 18th October, 2026 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm (AWST)
- Sunday, 25th October, 2026 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm (AWST)
- Sunday, 1st November, 2026 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm (AWST)

Assessment tasks

Complete a short answer assessment.

Athletics Australia strongly recommends that coaches complete 30 hours of practical coaching in a club, school, professional or private setting before receiving their Level 1 coaching accreditation
