DAY NINE RECAP | 2022 AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2022 Chemist Warehouse Australian Track and Field Championships have concluded with WA’s collecting eight additional medals and a new junior state record at Sydney Olympic Park.

WA’s Open 4x400m Women put on a masterclass in the penultimate event of the 2022 Championships. Annie Pfeiffer, Kiara Speechley, Brittany Scott and Emma Philippe will leave Sydney with the National title and gold medal after Philippe’s lightning finish pushed WA to the front and crossed the line in 3:41.09.

The combination of Kaitlin Lim, Evelyn John Jimmi, Skye Bowron and Olivia Dodd proved to be a record-breaking team. Running in the Women’s Under 18 4x100m, the four West Australian women flashed home in 46.54 to set a new Western Australia Under 18 record and secure the silver medal.

WA returned to the podium for the Open Women’s 4x100m Final with Sian O’Sullivan, Rebecca Del Pup, Grace Beaglehole and Brittany Scott collecting bronze in a time of 48.14.

Ky Hehir and Sienna Hanikeri concluded their 2022 Australian Championships campaign on the medal dais. A powerful finish by Hanikeri saw her claim the Under 18 3000m bronze in 9:58.82, while Ky Hehir had a composed race to finish in the silver position in the Men’s Under 17 300m with a time of 8:45.51.

WA medals continued out on the track with Kayel Ascoli and Nevaeh Hill both medalling in the Under 17 400m Hurdles Finals. Having medalled in 2021 in the event, Ascoli returned to the podium to claim silver in 56.12. While it was bronze for Neaveh Hill in the Women’s Final in a time of 64.40.

Finally, out in the field, Robert Marchesi Scott added to his medal tally with a bronze in the Men’s Hammer and a best throw of 60.86m.

WA walks away with 80 medals, 27 National titles, three auto-selected Australian athletes bound for the 2022 World Athletics Championships and countless memories.
