2021 AUSTRALIAN T&F CHAMPIONSHIP | DAY SEVEN RECAP

Day Seven saw WA’s first two Track and Field athletes get named in the Australian Olympic Team for Tokyo. While WA’s juniors once again collected a haul of medals at the 2021 Australian Track and Field Championships.

Day Seven was headlined by the announcement of an additional 15 athletes to the Australian Olympic Team. Nina Kennedy and Kurtis Marschall’s were among those selected, with both Pole Vaulters set to jump.

Before he got his ticket, Marschall was joined by Angus Armstrong in the Open Men’s Pole Vault. Gold would have made things easy for Marschall, however, his competition did not go according to plan. Entering at 5.50m, Marschall was unable to clear the height and bowed out with no measurement. While it was not the competition Kurtis Marschall would have wanted, the day’s outcome was sweet nonetheless.

“It was a pretty unlucky turn of events today, but I think we will keep on with what we are doing. Learn from this, take notes, go back and get ready for the next competition. Just make sure it doesn’t happen again. I’ll take an Olympic selection over the national title any day.” Marschall said.

Armstrong cleared 5.10m but failed to progress any further and collected silver in the Open Men’s Pole Vault.

Cruz Hogan returned to the national stage with a dominant performance in the Open Men’s Javelin. With four throws over 70m, Cruz unleashed in round three with a throw of 76.17m to claim silver.

Out on the track, Matthew Ramsden and Brianna Beahan both finished fifth in their respective Open 1500m and 100m Hurdle finals.

Ella Pardy delivered the goods once again in the Open Women’s Ambulant track. Pardy took line honours as well as the Gold in the 200m, crossing the line in 27.89 (-0.7). While Rhiannon Clarke collected bronze with a time of 28.41.

Ellie Parsons and Nicola Tolcon reaffirmed WA’s depth in Pole Vault with medal performances in the Under 18 Women’s final. Parson entered the competition late but impressed with a best clearance of 3.65m to claim silver, while Tolcon’s best of 3.25m secured her bronze.

Robert Marchesi-Scott will leave Sydney a happy man, collecting his third 2021 Australian Championships medal throwing 57.72m in the Under 17 Hammer Throw and taking home silver.

Day Seven was closed out with two relay medals for Western Australia. Shannon Statham, Toni Walden, Rebecca Del Pup and Taylah Cruttenden secured silver in the Open Women’s 4x100m in a time of 46.50. While Danielle Graham, Charli-Rose Carlyon, Abigail Graham and Mia Conroy claimed bronze in the Open Women’s 4x400m in 4:25.42.

Day Eight Preview

Day Eight will close out the 2021 Australian Track and Field Championships, with the juniors taking back the spotlight on the final day of competition.

Australian Open F13 Record Holder Jackson Hamilton will have his last hit out of the Championships and return to the Javelin runway for the Under 20 Men’s Para competition.  

Ellie Parsons returns to the competition following a successful Day Seven with the Under 20 Women Pole Vault.

While out on the track, Deacon Ayres will look to round out his successful Championships with a final medal in the Under 17 Boys Para 800m final.
