Registrations for the 2026 Country Athletics Championships are NOW OPEN!
The Championships are set to attract over 250 athletes to Albany in 2026, spreading across three action packed days of athletics from Friday the 16th to Sunday the 18th of January, with athletes of all ages competing for top honors across a range of track and field events.
Every year, the Albany Athletics Club hosts the Peter Watson Mile - an event to celebrate the achievements of local legend Peter Watson, who was the third West Australian (after Herb Elliott and Keith Wheeler) to break the four-minute mile. Watson represented Australia at the 1968 Olympic Games and the 1974 Commonwealth Games.
We are excited to join Albany Athletics Club in hosting the Peter Watson Mile during the 2026 Country Championships and invite anyone aged 12 and above (including members and non-members) to compete. The event will be conducted on the evening of Friday the 16th of January 2026 with registrations to be made through the 2026 Country Championships event portal below.
Athletics West are proud to deliver the 2026 Country Championships in partnership with the Albany Athletics Club, Healthway and their Fuel to Go & Play message, City of Albany, the department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport and the Bibbulmun Fund powered by Fremantle Foundation.
Registrations close 11:59pm on Sunday 4th January 2026.

The 2026 Country Championship EVENT SHIRT is on sale NOW!
The shirts will be sold via the Valour online store and delivered directly to you. To ensure you receive your shirt in time for the event, we recommend purchasing it no later than Monday December 22. To allow for peak holiday shipping delays, we strongly recommend that you order as in advance as possible as AW and Valour Staff will be taking a break over the Christmas and New Year period – therefore shirt sale period has been extended by opening earlier.
Please note that all event shirts are of limited release, and therefore limited stock and sizes are available! We recommend you purchase a shirt as soon as possible once sales open to avoid missing out.
