ACTIVE ADULTS LEAD TO ACTIVE KIDS
Published Fri 02 Feb 2024

This weekend Athletics West are challenging all parents to get active with their Little Athletes at the park, in the kitchen and beyond!
As part of our partnership with Healthway and their Go For 2&5 message, we want to support more adults and kids to get active.
Whether you are still choosing a wellbeing goal in 2024 or have something locked in, be sure to take the family with you on the journey and try out some of World Athletics Kids Athletics Challenges.
- Run your best to claim the treasure chest.
Starting off with a team activity, Treasure Chest is a game aimed at getting the heart rate up all while focusing on reaction and agility skills. The aim is to finish the relay and run as quickly as possible to fetch the treasure before they run out. Get started with Treasure Chest.
- Wrangle with the agility triangle.
A good way to keep everyone engaged is to have a range of activities and help diversify the game’s elements. In this game, the aim is easy, work around the agility course and conquer all three sides of the competition the fastest. Get started on the Triangle of Agility.
- Try hard to clear your yard.
Getting kids to clean anything is always a hard ask, until now. Using some soft objects and breaking into two teams, this activity will have teams battle it out to see who ends up with the least number of objects in their space. While it may combine a little bit of chaos, it will deliver a lot of fun. Get started with Clear the Yard.
- Time to tango with the shifting shadow.
Every child copies their parents, or at least tries too, so why not get active with it. Playing in pairs you are going to have one leader and one shadow. The aim of the game is to be creative with movement types as a leader, and to follow the leader closely in both movements and speed as a shadow. Get started with Shifting Shadow.
- Too hot to run, then it’s time to look in a cook book.
This weekend is a great time to pull out an old cook book and take some time to get the kids into the kitchen. Whether it is preparing a salad for the family lunch or blitzing a fruit smoothie, why not Go For 2&5 with the kids. Alternatively, head to the Fuel to Go & Play recipes page to find a family friend and nutritional meal to cook. Get started with a Fuel to Go & Play recipe.
