ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING STRIVE THROWS

Athletics West was advised today by the City of Canning that the Throws cage (Hammer/Discus) at Ern Clark Athletics Centre has been closed effective immediately due to a structural issue with the metal base plates and the risk posed to users if the site remained open. The City of Canning is currently working to provide a timeline for repairs and certification by a structural engineer to ensure the safety of the site before it is reopened.
As a result, Athletics West must adjust the Strive Programs on the 16th and 21st of October, in addition to the WA All Schools Championships, to provide an alternative venue to host Discus and Hammer Throw.
The Discus and Hammer Throw competitions scheduled on these dates will now be offered at McGillivray Oval, Mount Claremont on:
- Saturday 15 Oct at 2-4 pm
- Saturday 22 Oct at 2-4 pm
Additional safety measures will be put in place to ensure Hammer Throw can be conducted safely within the confines of the venue. Entrants who have registered for these events for 16 October will be contacted directly and any athletes wishing to participate can find the registration links on the Athletics West calendar.
We are hoping to have a timeframe by late next week, and a revised WA All Schools timetable will be released following this if required to ensure competitors can compete in scheduled events if they have to be held at different locations.
Athletics West apologise for the inconvenience this may cause our community and will continue to work with the City of Canning to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
