ARE YOU READY TO WEAR IT PURPLE THIS OCTOBER?

Athletics West is excited to announce the ‘Wear it Purple’ round is back this October with WA’s Little Athletics Centres helping raise funds for the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The ‘Wear it Purple’ round is a chance for Little Athletes, Coaches, Parents and Volunteers to pull on something purple and help raise funds for the Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre.
The Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre is a global epicentre for paediatric respiratory research, informing clinical practice and driving a new research agenda for childhood lung health.
Running from the 16 October to the 30 October, WA’s Little Athletics Centres will run individual fundraisers and champion the partnership in unique ways to help engage the community.
Athletics West CEO Vince Del Prete said he is excited to see the athletics community “dig deep and once again reinforce the frontline of children’s health in WA.”
“Almost 7% of our Little Athletes in 2019 and 2020 suffered from some sort of asthmatic or breathing problem. The Wear it Purple round is our communities opportunity to raise funds and support critical research that affects athletes in our own community,” he said.
“I encourage all of our Little Athletic Centres to get involved, and regardless of age or talent, take part in some fantastic fundraising initiatives. I am sure our community will find creative ways to Wear it Purple this October and continue to support our fantastic relationship with the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.”
A powerhouse partnership between the Telethon Kids Institute, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and Perth Children’s Hospital, the Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre aims to prevent and cure respiratory illness in children and ensure that all children have healthy lungs for life.
Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Carrick Robinson said the Foundation was delighted to continue the partnership with Athletics West and its community with the common goal of improving respiratory outcomes for kids.
“For over 20 years Athletics West has been supporting the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, helping to fund world-class healthcare for WA’s sick children,” he said
“With this year’s funds going to the Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre – we are able to support world-class research to find new and better treatments for kids living with chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma and cystic fibrosis.
“Through Athletics West’s continued support we are one step closer to ensuring all WA children have healthy lungs for life.”
