Athletics West is proud to continue its longstanding partnership with the Perth Running Festival.
Set to take place on Sunday, 11 October, the Perth Running Festival will once again host the State Marathon Championships, attracting a strong field of elite international and local athletes competing for state honours. This marks Athletics West’s fourth year as a partner of the event, and we look forward to building on this successful partnership in the years ahead.
The event is completely sold out and includes the 4km, 10km, half marathon and Perth Marathon. The Perth Running Festival is dubbed “Australia’s most beautiful run,” and will wind around the picturesque Swan River Foreshore and concluding inside the iconic Optus Stadium.
The media afternoon, held on Friday, 9 October, showcased the impressive depth of talent set to line up on race day. International men and women marathon stars Dominic Ngeno from Kenya (personal best 2:06:37), Ryoma Takeuchi from Japan (personal best 2:08.20) and Antonina Kwambai from Kenya (personal best 2:23:20) will headline the event, while local contenders Matt Smith (personal best 2:27:19), Nera Jareb (personal best 2:35:00) will be aiming to secure the State Marathon Championship titles. In the half marathon, Matt Ramsden, course record holder (1:04:11) aims to better this time. The State Half Marathon champion Lauren French aims to continue her half marathon dominance in the event, while Amy Buckingham debuts in the distance.
The Perth Running Festival creates an exciting and inclusive running experience for the wider community and also aims to raise important funds for Telethon. The WA Marathon Club is also a long standing partner of the event, adding to the success of the running festival.
