CLUB V CLUB RETURNS IN 2022-23 SEASON

Published Fri 21 Oct 2022

Athletics West's Club v Club competition is back this season and will see a new format delivered at Strive powered by Go For 2&5. Changing up the format, this season, at every Strive competition, athletes have the chance to earn valuable points for their club. The more you compete, the more points you earn!

The revitalized format sets the scene for a close competition between our senior clubs this summer with every top eight athlete in each field receiving points as follows:

1st place - 10 points

2nd place - 8 points

3rd place - 7 points

4th place - 6 points

5th place - 5 points

6th place - 4 points

7th place - 3 points

8th place - 2 points

All other competing athletes will receive 1 point per event they participate in. Points will be accumulated for every regular event (excluding State Championship, Relay or Invitational events) and will be divided by each Club's number of competing members. This ensures points are weighted against the size of the club and gives all clubs a fair chance to become the 2022/23 Champion Club and win the Douglas Memorial Shield. For the purpose of point scoring in throwing events, the field will include all athletes competing in the discipline regardless of implemented weight.

The Douglas Memorial Shield was named after British Army Officer Lieutenant G. Douglas, Vice President and Referee with the WA Amateur Athletic Association from 1928-1934. Records indicate he was an Official Starter for the Association in 1927, and he was described as an imposing figure, who inspired awe and confidence, who would call “Gentlemen, on your marks… set… [bang!]”. The DM Shield was first awarded in 1936 to Y.M.C.A and last awarded in 1993 to Curtin Athletics Club.

Point score updates will be provided from November onwards on a monthly basis, with the Champion Club being awarded the Douglas Memorial Shield at the conclusion of the 2022/23 Athletics West Summer Season powered by Go For 2&5.
