COVID 19 UPDATE | 7 January 2022

Published Fri 07 Jan 2022

Athletics West would like to update the community on the COVID-19 health requirements as outlined by the WA Government and how it affects the sport’s delivery.

To assist in the delivery of athletics events and programs in WA, Athletics West have summarised the following information based on the WA Government’s safety guidelines and are developing additional information to help all our stakeholders better understand what requirements will be in place this year.

STRIVE POWERED BY GO FOR 2&5

Under the current number of patrons attending and competing at the weekly Strive Program double vaccination is not required. As of 7 January 2022 from 6 pm, masks will no longer be required at the WA Athletics Stadium. Please practice social distancing when seated in the grandstand or spectating events, where you are near patrons not from the same household.

LITTLE ATHLETICS CENTRE COMPETITIONS

ATTENDEES

Under the current WA Government Health Guidelines, only events with more than 2,501 patrons, as well as a specified list of venues require double vaccination and/or proof of vaccination. This means Centre Competitions under 2,500 patrons will not require attendees to be double vaccinated. This is subject to change based on the WA Government’s Safe Border Transition plans.

CENTRES

If Little Athletics Centres expect more than 500 patrons, they will need to complete a COVID Event Checklist or COVID Event Plan as part of the WA Government Health Requirements. Event Organisers must submit the required Event Checklists or Event Plans to their relevant Local Government along with all other relevant documentation required to hold a public event. As well as lodge the event with the Department of Health.

UPCOMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Athletics West will provide specific information about all upcoming Championships closer to the event’s delivery based on the latest WA Government Health Guidelines.

The most significant change to consider is from 12:01 am, Saturday 5 February 2022, all patrons, athletes, parents/guardians, spectators, officials, staff, volunteers, and any other individuals 16 years or older attending large events (1,000+) will need to be double dose vaccinated against COVID-19.

Athletics West expects that the number of anticipated patrons for both the WA Little Athletics Zone Championships and WA Little Athletics State Championships will be required to be double vaccinated based on current WA State Health Requirements.

Due to the ongoing nature of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we recommend all stakeholders review the WA Government’s COVID-19 information page to further understand the current and future health guidelines set for the state. CLICK HERE.

The safety and wellbeing of our community continues to be our utmost priority in delivering the 2021-22 Season. We will continue to monitor and adapt our operations according to the advice of the State Government.
