EVENT PREVIEW| 2022 COUNTRY ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

This weekend more than 330 of WA’s best country track and field athletes will head to the goldfields for the 2022 WA Country Athletics Championships. The Championships will see 12 Regional Centres from all over WA represented in at Kalgoorlie’s Oasis Playing Fields from the 14 to 16 January.

Among the athletes traveling to Kalgoorlie will be 2020 Tokyo Olympic Pole Vault Finalist Kurtis Marschall. Having represented Australia at the highest level competing, the reigning Commonwealth Games Champion is excited to help inspire the next generation of Australian Track and Field Athletes in WA’s outback.

“Ever since I started athletics, I was brought up to do it for fun and travel. The Country Championships allows you to start your athletics career by having fun while also traveling and seeing new places.” Said Marschall.

“I’m always most excited when I know I’m going to be competing at a track I’ve never been to before. I can’t wait to see the kids embrace competing in WA’s outback and hope they enjoy the Championships.”

Marschall will be at the Country Championships on Saturday and Sunday where he will be available for autographs and to answer any questions junior and senior athletes have. Kurtis will also be running free Come and Try Activation sessions for athletes and locals through out the day.

While Athletes will be looking to claim the 2022 Country title, their will be action off the track with Coles handing out free Bananas and Keep On Running in attendance with the latest range of spikes on offer. The official PUMA 2022 Country Championship Event Shirts will be available for collection at the event, as well as a very limited amount of stock left to purchase.

In addition to the Championships, the local community will be able to get involved with a range of clinics on offer in the lead up to the Championships. On Thursday, Athletics West are offering a FREE come and try event at the Oasis Playing Fields. The event will include a range of athletics-based games and activities and is open to everyone.
