EVENT PREVIEW | 2022 WORLD ATHLETICS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Mathew Ramsden and Kurtis Marschall will take on the world this weekend in Belgrade, Serbia at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
Pulling on the green and gold for the first time since the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Ramsden will kick off his campaign tonight in Round One of the 3000m. Ramsden has spent the lead up to the Championships training in Perth and highlighted he is in world-class at the recent WA State Track and Field Championships powered by Go For 2&5. Ramsden will line up in Round One run on the 18th of March at 8:30 pm AWST, with the final on Sunday the 20th at 7:05 pm AWST.
Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Kurtis Marschall will have to wait until the last day of the Championships before he lines up. Marschall has spent the last month competing in Europe against some of the best in the world to prepare for the Championships.
“I finished fourth at the 2018 World Indoors with a jump of 5.80m which was an equal personal best at the time, I think fourth place this time will require a higher result. If I continue to focus on things we have been working on this season I have the confidence to clear a height that’ll put me in the mix.” Said Marschall.
“We’ve found some consistency since being in Europe, having jumped over 5.70 three times. Competing with the guys who are jumping over 5.90m and even 6m definitely pushes me. I haven’t seen my old friend Armond Duplantis since the Olympics. As much as I want to beat him, watching him in the flesh, sending the sport to a whole new level is something incredible in itself. I believe he’s capable of 6.30m at some point in his career.”
The Men’s Pole vault will commence on 20th March 12:17am AWST.
WA Pole Vaulter Nina Kennedy was also selected in the Australian team of 15, but had to withdraw from the competition due to injury. Nina is setting her sights on being in peak shape for the World Championships and Commonwealth games later this year.
