Letter from the CEO

It has been just over a week since I have started at Athletics West as the new Chief Executive Officer. The opportunity to lead this organisation is a privilege of enormous magnitude. I am truly grateful to the board and chair David Rowse for appointing me to this position and I look forward to working closely with our committed group of directors to help grow this incredible sport. In my first few days on the job, I have observed the strong passion which drives Athletics in Western Australia. From the staff, coaches, officials, participants and volunteers, Athletics is a sport which prides itself on community. Our vision is to lead the way for a greater experience with athletics from grassroots to elite.

In the coming days we will see the culmination of years of hard work from athletes about to realise their dreams at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This is a chance for us to get behind the green and gold and no doubt there will be some amazing moments over the next couple of weeks.

We also have our clubs and centres conference coming up which will be a great opportunity for the athletics community to get together ahead of our next summer season. I look forward to meeting several of you at the conference and getting to know the clubs and groups which are the fabric of our sport.

I have a diverse sporting background which has included time in the collegiate system in the United States to grassroots and professional sport here in Western Australia. In over 20 years of sporting administration experience, I have learned that the heart of a sport is its people and Athletics has so many passionate individuals and groups that truly care about its direction. I aim to work with the community to help realise the potential of our sport by driving participation, supporting clubs and centres, improving facilities, build the profile of Athletics and drive growth through commercial opportunities.

There is a bright future ahead, now lets all get behind Australia as we go for Gold in Glasgow.

Tyson Beattie
