NORTH WEST ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURNS TO BROOME IN 2021

Athletics West is pleased to announce the North West Athletics Championships will return to the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre, home of the Broome Little Athletics Centre from the 17-19 of September 2021.

This year, the event will feature an exciting exhibition event with some of WA’s elite athletes taking part in the Championships Opening Ceremony on Friday the 17 of September. The Championships are expected to attract approximately 200 junior, senior and masters participants, from 5 to 100 years of age, all vying for top honours and an opportunity to achieve their own personal best results.

“We are really excited to return to Broome in September and continue to develop the sport’s North West footprint. Thanks to the Shire of Broome, the Championship is able to return bigger and better, allowing us to continue developing the community’s passion for athletics. Events like this further Athletics Wests commitment to helping support regional WA and foster healthy lifestyles through grassroots sport.” said Athletics West CEO Vince Del Prete. 

Broome Little Athletics will help host the 2021 North West Championships and are looking "forward to seeing Athletes from all over Western Australia competing".

"Broome Little Athletics is excited to host the North West Championships in 2021. It most importantly promotes and encourages Athletics within our Kimberley Region allowing youth engagement and community involvement." said Broome Little Athletics's Kathleen Thompson. 

WA’s best country and regional athletes will be able to enjoy all the Shire of Broome has to offer and will draw visitors from across the State including Exmouth, Port Hedland, Karratha, Geraldton, Bunbury, Northam, Kalgoorlie and many more. The Shire of Broome President Harold Tracey said the shire is "delighted to host the 2021 North West Championships and looks forward to athletes from across WA coming to compete."

"Holding state-level sporting events at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre is a testament to the facilities available to local athletes, which the Shire has invested in significantly over recent years. The Shire hopes visiting athletes will enjoy what Broome and our beautiful region has to offer after their hard work on the track is done."
