OUTCOME OF THE SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING HELD ON 7 AUGUST 2024
Published Thu 08 Aug 2024
Since 2020 Athletics West has dealt with challenges of affiliating with two national bodies. The Athletics West Board determined that the best interests of our sport in Western Australia were not served by that structure. Consequently, Athletics West Member Centres and Clubs were asked to consider and if thought fit, pass a resolution amending our Constitution, the result of which would be to no longer affiliate with Little Athletics Australia (LAA) and to only affiliate with Athletics Australia (AA) as the national governing body for athletics in Australia.
As our Members did back in 2020 in taking a leap of faith to merge to become Athletics West, again, last night they took a leap of faith by overwhelmingly voting in favour of the resolution.
This will ensure the sport in WA can move forward in a way that best serves its Members and provide encouragement to the rest of the sport nationally in seeking to unite to provide the best products, services and opportunities for all.
Athletics West will now commence the next stage of this process, working with the Centres and Clubs to effect any changes required as a result of no longer affiliating with LAA for the 2024/2025 season.
Exciting times are ahead.
The Athletics West Management and Office staff will be available to assist you with any questions.
