Published Fri 02 May 2025

WA runners Josh Reeve and William Liitaeinen have been selected as part of the Australian team bound for the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics. The duo will join seven other Australians as part of the team set to contest the athletics program.
Reeve (Suzi Graves) and Liitaeinen will make their green and gold debut in November at the 25th edition of the Deaflympics as they extend their already impressive athletic careers. Both young athletes have a slew of T01 Australian Records, with Reeve extending his National Under 20 800m record in 2025, while Liitaeinen has bettered both the Australian Under 20 1500m and 3000m records this season.
Reeve's selection comes fresh off a recent strong performance at the 2025 Australian Athletics Championships held in Perth. Running in front of a home crowd, the middle distance star delivered medals in both the 800m and 1500m, with silver in the Men's Under 20 Para 1500m in 4:25.29 and bronze in the Men's Under 20 Para 800m in 2:06.57.
The city of Tokyo, Japan will host the 25th Summer Deaflympics from 15 – 26 November 2025. Elite deaf athletes from around the world will come together for 12 days of world-class sports competition and social and cultural activities.
