TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT | WORLD PARA ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Published Fri 02 Jun 2023

The World Para Athletics Championships makes its return in 2023 set in Paris July 8 to 17. The Australian team features an array of top performing West Aussies to round out what will be a strong national team.

Headlining the team is reigning Paralympic champion Madison de Rozario (T53, Louise Sauage) who claimed two gold medals in the 800m T53 and Marathon T54 in Tokyo and two gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. With an already impressive athletics career, Rozario looks to add to her long list of accolades taking on the 800m, 1500 and 5000m.

Recently named Athletics West Para Athlete of the Year Sarah Edmiston (T53, Louise Sauvage) takes centre stage to represent Australia yet again. The Paralympian claimed gold at the 2022 Oceania Athletics Championships and is coming off silver medal performances in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and this year’s Australian Track and Field Championships for F-44 Discus.

Coached by Athletics West Para Coach of the Year Danny Kevan, Rhiannon Clarke will be at the start line for the 100m, 200m and 400m aiming for another spot at the podium. Clarke claimed bronze in the 100m T38 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and recently went three for three in gold medals at nationals for the 100m, 200m and 400m.

Clarke will share the track with training partner Ella Pardy (T38, Danny Kevan) in the 100m and 200m. Ella’s close battle with Clarke at Nationals lead to two silvers in the 100m and 200m.

Another Athletics West Para Athlete of the Year award winner in Jackson Hamilton (F13, Morgan Ward), will make his Australian Team debut on the Javelin runway. Hamilton has found success on national stage for the last 2 years, he set a new Parra Open Men’s Javelin national record earlier in the year and recently claimed bronze in the Men’s Ambulant Javelin at Nationals.
