TRAINING DURING THE WA ATHLETICS STADIUM CLOSURE
Published Thu 29 Sep 2022

From the 3 October 2022, the WA Athletics Stadium will be closed for track replacement and unavailable for training and competition until mid-December, as advised by Venues West. As previously communicated, Strive competitions will be held at Ern Clark Athletics Centre in Cannington during this time.
We understand the closure will affect some members of our athletics community who use the facility for training and have provided some options below for coaches, athletes, and squads seeking alternative training venues:
Ern Clark Athletics Centre
The Curtin University Athletic Club committee have kindly offered to accommodate athletes during their training sessions on Monday and Wednesday 4.00-6.00 pm. If you would like to utilize this option, please complete the expression of interest form at https://forms.gle/ABCL1jVCNabAzKjV8
Athletics West will also offer a training period prior to Strive competitions. This will include:
- Saturday afternoon competitions (1.00-2.00pm, 5.00-6.00pm or as sites become available)
- Sunday morning competitions (7.30-9.00 am, 12.00-1.00 pm, or as sites become available)
Please note athletes wishing to train during these times must follow instructions by staff/officials for site availability. Once sites become available, athletes are welcome to use them for training so long as there is no conflict with competition events. Only one long throwing (JT/DT/HT) will be available at any one time.
McGillivray Oval
McGillivray Oval is a UWA Sports Facility and is currently booked every afternoon of the week by UWA Little Athletics Centre and UWA Senior Athletics Club. The senior club is offering a limited number of guest training passes during the track closure, for athletes who want to use the facility at the following times:
- Mondays and Fridays 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm
- Wednesdays 5.00 pm to 6.30 pm
Guest passes can be purchased at https://www.uwaac.com.au/product/28716/
Please note McGillivray Oval is not available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays mornings due to Little Athletics training and competition.
Local School Facilities
Athletics West have book an alternative grass track venue near the WA Athletics Stadium for:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm
This is a grass facility with long jump pits (grass runway), a Discus cage and concrete throws circles.
If you are interested in utilising this alternate training venue during the WAAS closure, please email admin@athleticswest.com.au.
