WA OFFICIALS BOUND FOR BRISBANE

The 100th edition of the Australian Track and Field Championships is set to unfold this weekend, and with World Championship spots on the line, the competition is set to be fierce as WA’s 97 athletes look to make their mark.
However, the WA athletes won’t be the only contingent from the west coast. Seven of WA’s best Track and Field Officials have been appointed to help administer the four-day Championships and ensure a level playing field is delivered in Brisbane.
Joining more than 200 accredited officials from across Oceania, WA will be represented from the Technical Room to the start line, with Mark Blackman, Marie Fitzsimmons, Bernadette Hennighan, Craig Hook, Mike Holmes, Kylee McVee and Toni Petts selected for the Championships.
Athletics West CEO Vince Del Prete said he was ‘thrilled to see WA’s officials getting the opportunity to learn alongside the nation’s best and grow as part of the Green and Gold decade.”
“The legacy of this decade won’t just be the results on the track, but the community of officials and coaches we are able to build as a nation. As volunteers, our officials represent a hugely important aspect of our sport and it’s exciting to see them once again get appointed to the National Championships.” Del Prete said.
“I’m sure our community will join me in congratulating the officials appointed to these Championships, because the reality is without them, we wouldn’t have seen the slew of incredible results produced by our Australian Athletes.”
“The medals secured at the 2022 World Championships and Birmingham Commonwealth Games only happen because we have an incredible community of volunteers. None of the medals or accolades are possible without the dedicated hard work of officials putting in the hours at the WA Athletics Stadium and at national events like this.”
WA’s officials will work closely with mentors and international officials over the next four days as they work towards selection for Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games and the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

The 2023 Chemist Warehouse Australian Open and Under 20 Track & Field Championships will be held from Thursday 30 March to Sunday 2 April at the Queensland Sport & Athletics Centre in Brisbane. Spectators can purchase tickets for the four-day Championships HERE.
