WA ATHLETES SET FOR TRACK CLASSIC SHOWDOWN

WA’s top athletes are set to take on Round Two and Three of the Coles Summer Super Series with the Canberra and Sydney Track Classics set for tonight and Saturday.

14 West Australian athletes are on the start list with the likes of Brianna Beahan, Madison de Rozario, Matthew Ramsden and WA’s Pole Vaulters looking to take their season to the next level.

Canberra Track Classic – 11 March 2021

World Champion and selected Tokyo 2021 Paralympian Madison de Rozario headlines the WA team at the Canberra Track Classic. The NSW based athlete will be one of three WA wheelchair athletes competing on the night. De Rozario returns to the 1500m after an almost World Record-setting race in the 800m last month. Cory Crombie joins her in the 1500m mixed wheelchair event and will also line up in the 100m and 400m event as well. Robyn Lambird rounds out WA’s wheelchair athletes and is set to compete in the 100m.

2019 World Championship representative Brianna Beahan will race in a seriously fast 100m Women’s Hurdles. With five of the 10 fastest female Australian hurdlers in the line-up, Beahan’s personal best form is sure to continue.

Victorian-based Peter Bol will cap off the evening in the highly anticipated Men’s 800m. Luke Shaw will line up alongside Bol, with Bol set to light up the track with training partner Joseph Deng as they look to secure their first Tokyo 2021 Olympic qualifier.

Four-time WA State 100m Champion Aaron Bresland will lead a contingent of WA sprinters at the event, with 2019 World Para Athletics Championship bronze medalist Rhiannon Clarke looking for her first test as she prepares for the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics. Young gun Taylah Cruttenden enters a fast field in the Open Women’s 100m and will be looking to better her recent flying form.

Sydney Track Classic – 13 March 2021

WA’s Pole Vaulting group will be looking to test the recent Olympic qualifying form. Kurtis Marschall and Nina Kennedy have both registered consecutive Tokyo 2021 qualifiers in Perth and will look to extend that run at the Sydney Olympic Track. Tantalisingly close to the Australian Record, Kennedy is primed to break Alana Boyd’s 4.81m Australian Record on Saturday when she is joined by fellow West Australian’s Elizaveta Parnov and Lauren Hyde Cooling. While Marschall will be joined by Angus Armstrong in the men’s competition.

Matthew Ramsden will look to add the 5000m to his Tokyo 2021 schedule when he lines up in Sydney. The Open 5000m National Championships will see Ramsden lead a field of 20 following his recent Box Hill Burn 5000m where he finished second and just outside of the 13:13.50 Olympic Qualifier.

Peter Bol and Luke Shaw return for another 800m in Sydney, with Bol set for the Open race and Shaw on the B Final start list.
