Athletics West are excited to announce the launch of the 2025/26 Youth Development Program!
The Youth Development Program will provide young athletes aged 15-17 from WA Clubs and Centres the opportunity to develop their leadership skills on and off the track. The program aims to increase the number of accredited coaches and officials across Western Australia, while building a pool of young leaders capable of accessing ongoing opportunities within the sport. It also supports affiliated clubs and centres by enhancing the capacity of volunteers to contribute meaningfully to local training sessions and competitions.
The program includes a one-night stay at Point Walter Recreation Camp from Friday 23rd of January to Saturday 24th of January, where participants will take part in a variety of activities. The program will see participants take part in a variety of activities including a Western Australian Institute of Sport tour, a leadership workshop, the opportunity to officiate at a Strive event as well as complete the practical component of the Australian Athletics Level 1 Coach course and event specific coach upskilling.
At the conclusion of the program, participants will have achieved their Australian Athletics Level 1 Youth Coach Accreditation and Apprentice Level Referee Accreditation (World Athletics), while also being presented a Youth Development Program certificate of completion by Athletics West with ongoing opportunities to officiate at local and domestic meets.
The program cost is $215.00 per participant, inclusive of all expenses.
Thanks to Australian Athletics and the Play Our Way Grant, participants affiliated with Athletics West Clubs or Centres and who are in regional or rural areas will have the opportunity to obtain partial financial support to participate in the 2025/26 Youth Development Program. Priority of the funding will be given to women and First Nations applicants in line with the grant objectives and all who wish to be considered must complete the formal application attached below to review.
Affiliated Senior Clubs and Little Athletics WA Centres are invited to nominate up to two participants, aged 15-17 at the time of the camp. Athletes may also nominate themselves if they believe the meet the eligibility criteria below.
Nominations close 11:59pm Wednesday 10 December 2025.
