Athletics West Youth Development Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Athletics West is excited to launch the Youth Development Program in 2023/24. The state-based development program aims to provide young members and volunteers with development, upskilling, and mentorship, building capacity in young people to give back to their local clubs and centres, as well as to coach and/or officiate at local and state level competitions. 

Affiliated Senior Clubs and Little Athletics Centres are invited to nominate up to two (2) participants, aged 15-17 at the time of the camp. 

As part of the program, participants will be required to attend an induction session on Saturday 25 November, and meet online to complete the theory components of the Athletics Australia Level 1 Coach Course on Tuesday 9 and 16 January, 4:00pm – 6:00pm. The program culminates with a 2-night camp running from Saturday 20 January – Monday 22 January.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will receive their Athletics Australia Level 1 Coaching accreditation, a state level officiating accreditation, and a Youth Development Program certificate of completion from Athletics West. 

 

PROGRAM INCLUSIONS

  • Accommodation, meals, and recreational activities during the 2-night Camp at Ern Halliday Recreation Camp.
  • Athletics Australia Level 1 Coach accreditation (valued at $230).
  • State Level officiating accreditation.
  • Event specific coach upskilling.
  • Tour of the WAIS High Performance centre.
  • WAIS Coach meet and greet.
  • Leadership workshop with an external provider.
  • Opportunity to officiate at Strive.
  • Program t-shirt.
  • Recognition on the Athletics West website.
  • Certificate of completion of the 2023/24 Youth Development Program.

 

PARTICIPANT SELECTION & ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Athletics West Senior Clubs and Little Athletics Centres are invited to nominate up to two (2) individuals who meet the below eligibility criteria by 11:59pm Sunday 29 October 2023 via the Club and Centre Nomination Form

Applications are now open for athletes who would like to nominate for this program & meet the below eligibility criteria. Athletes can nominate by completing the Athlete Nomination Form prior to 11:59pm Monday 20 November.

YDP Participant Eligibility

  • Aged between 15 – 17 at the time of the camp.
  • Be in good standing with Athletics West and Athletics Australia.
  • Nominated by an Athletics West affiliated club or centre.

* NB: It is not a requirement for nominated YDP participants to be a current member of Athletics West to be eligible for this program. This is to allow former athletes to be nominated.

Invited participants will be required to accept their place via a second registration portal by 11:59pm Friday 17 November.
