ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING STRIVE THROWS

Athletics West was advised today by the City of Canning that the Throws cage (Hammer/Discus) at Ern Clark Athletics Centre has been closed effective immediately due to a structural issue with the metal base plates and the risk posed to users if the site remained open. The City of Canning is currently working to provide a timeline for repairs and certification by a structural engineer to ensure the safety of the site before it is reopened.

Athletics Australia is pleased to confirm the competition calendar for the 2022/2023 Chemist Warehouse Australian Summer of Athletics, which is set to culminate with the 100th edition of the Australian Track and Field Championships in Brisbane, Queensland.

After a two-year hiatus, the Coles Little Athletics National Under 15 Camp is set to return this weekend. 15 WA Little Athletes will take part in the national training camp at the Gold Coast Performance Centre in Queensland.

2022 WA ALL SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS NOW OPEN

Registrations are now open for the 2022 WA All Schools Championships powered by Go For 2&5. The Championships will see high-school-aged students go head to head at Ern Clark Athletics Centre this October.

TRAINING DURING THE WA ATHLETICS STADIUM CLOSURE

From the 3 October 2022, the WA Athletics Stadium will be closed for track replacement and unavailable for training and competition until mid-December, as advised by Venues West. As previously communicated, Strive competitions will be held at Ern Clark Athletics Centre in Cannington during this time.

AUSTRALIAN ATHLETES BOUND FOR BROOME

Three of Australia’s top Track and Field Athletes are set for Broome as part of next week’s North West Athletics Championships. 2016 Rio Olympic Finalist Caitlin Sargent-Jones, 2022 World Athletics Under 20 representative Etienne Rousseau and 2022 Oceania Champion Tomysha Clark will head north as part of the North West Championships.

WA Cross Country runners put up their best foot forward at the 82nd instalment of the Australian Cross Country Championship, held at Oakbank, returning from a two-year hiatus. Despite the muddy terrain, the West Aussies showed a lot of grit and return home with four medals and solid overall team performance.
