2023 ZONES CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Athletics West regrets to announce the Little Athletics Zone Championships will not occur in 2023.
After exhausting a range of options and working in consultation with WA’s Little Athletics Centres, the Little Athletics Zone Championships are unable to be conducted in 2023. Due to the nature of the event, extensive Centre help is needed to deliver the event, and unfortunately in 2023, an agreement was unable to be met.
While the event will not be hosted in 2023, Athletics West will review the Little Athletics Zone Championship as part of its season review and will look to revitalise the competition opportunity for next season.
As announced earlier in the season, the Zone Championships were not a qualifying event for the State Junior Track and Field Championships. As a reminder, Little Athletes will be able to qualify and progress to the Championships in the following ways:
- Achieving the entry standard based on historical results from Zones Championships and State Championships
- Metro only: athletes who are ranked in the top 2 performance in the relevant event at their Centre are eligible to enter
- Country/North West only: athletes who place in the top 2 at the 2023 WA Country Championships.
As a transition opportunity, athletes born in 2010 can compete at either or both Championship events in accordance with the entry criteria.
To provide more competition opportunities for the Under 7 and Under 8 athletes who are ineligible to compete at the State Junior Track and Field Championships, Athletics West will now look to host the Junior Challenge powered by Go For 2&5 on the weekend of the 25th and 26th of February. A final date and details of the Challenge will be released shortly.
Athletics West looks forward to working with the State's Little Athletics Centres to develop more ways to deliver competition opportunities in the coming season.
