North West Athletics Championships

Athletics West is pleased to announce the North West Athletics Championships will be heading to Karratha this September!

The 2024 North West Athletics Championships are set for the 21st and 22nd of September at Butler Reserve in Karratha.

Championship Information

The 2024 WA North West Athletics Championships will be held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of September 2024 at Butler Reserve.

On Friday the 20th September, there will be a range of clinics for athletes, with some of Australia's top athletes headed to Karratha to host the clinics, in addition to parent / volunteer upskilling sessions for coaching and officiating roles. The championships are expected to attract approximately 100 junior, senior and masters participants from 5 years and over, all vying for top honours and opportunity to achieve their own personal best results.

As many parents and athletes will be attending the Frank Butler Community Centre on Friday for the free community activation with our U20 World Athletics Champions and officials upskilling, Athletics West wish to provide greater access for late entries, questions and bib collection.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

The North West Athletics Championships will offer a range of athlete clinics, coach and officiating upskilling sessions. Athlete clinics will be available for anyone wanting to have a go or learn from some of Australia's best athletes. Upskilling sessions for parents wanting to learn more about coaching, event rules and setting up and running a site at competition will also be offered.

About the Athletes:

Alexandra Griffin -
Australian Under 20 Champion, Alexandra Griffin recently returned from the World under 20 Athletics Championship where she placed 5th while blitzing her state record. Griffin is currently ranked 6th in the world in the Under 20 10,000m Race Walk after a string of impressive performances across the 2024 season including being crowned Australian Under 20 Champion.

Jack Whiteside -
Jack Whiteside made his name known after claiming gold at the Oceania Championships in 2022. Whitside secured gold at the Australian Championships in Adelaide earlier this year securing himself a spot on the Australian Under 20 team. The decathlete recently placed 9th in the world at the World Under 20 Championships in Lima, smashing the Under 20 Decathlon State Record
